Björn Þorsteinsson | Hvað er líkami og hver er staða hans í heiminum?

Verið öll hjartanlega velkomin á erindi Björns Þorsteinssonar heimspekings í Gerðarsafni, miðvikudaginn 8. október kl. 12.15.

Hvað er líkami og hver er staða hans í heiminum? Í erindinu verður hugað að þessari stóru spurningu í samræðu við heimspeki og list. Meðal þess sem snert verður á eru hugtök eins og skynjun, upplifun, sköpun, svörun og skynfinning – og leidd verða rök að sérstöku hlutverki listarinnar í könnun líkamans á veruleikanum. Björn Þorsteinsson er prófessor í heimspeki við Hugvísindasvið Háskóla Íslands.

Um sýninguna Corpus:

Líkaminn er lifandi fyrirbæri í sífelldri sveiflu milli sjálfsins og annars, menningar og náttúru, hins séða og óséða. Listamenn Corpus fá okkur til að íhuga hann nánar, með því að nota áferðir, nærveru, efniskennd, litbrigði og framvindu til að takast á við flókin tengsl kyns, kynþáttar, vistfræði og tækni. Hér er líkaminn ekki stöðugur heldur síkvikur og samofinn umhverfi sínu.

Á Corpus má finna verk eftir Arvidu Byström, Herttu Kiiski, Jeanette Ehlers, Klāvs Liepiņš & Renāte Feizaka, Salad Hilowle og Sunnevu Ásu Weisshappel, sem vinna innan efnisleika, vefnaðar, skúlptúrs og ljósmyndunar. Hver á sinn hátt rannsaka listamennirnir tengsl okkar við eigin líkama, bæði í rými og í sambandi við aðrar verur, og stöðu líkamans í framþróunarmiðuðum heimi. Sýningarstjóri er Daría Sól Andrews.

Hádegiserindið er liður í viðburðaröðinni Menning á miðvikudögum sem er styrkt af menningar og mannlífsnefnd Kópavogsbæjar. Aðgangur er ókeypis.

All are welcome to a talk with philosopher Björn Þorsteinsson at Gerðarsafn on Wednesday, October 8 at 12:15. Please note that the talk will be in Icelandic.

What is the body and what is its place in the world? This question will be discussed in dialogue with philosophy and art. Among the topics covered are concepts such as perception, experience, creation, response and sensory perception – and arguments will be made for the special role of art in the body’s exploration of reality. Björn Þorsteinsson is a professor of philosophy at the School of Humanities at the University of Iceland.

About the exhibition Corpus:

Through fabric and film, pigment and perfor­mance, each work presented in Corpus asks us to reflect on the lived body not as a stable container, but as something deeply relational: Always moving between self and other, culture and nature, seen and unseen. The artists of Corpus engage with complex networks of gender, race, materiality, ecology, and technology.

Corpus presents work by Arvida Byström, Jeannette Ehlers, Salad Hilowle, Hertta Kiiski, Klāvs Liepiņš &Renāte Feizaka and Sunneva Ása Weisshappel. Working within materiality, fabrics, sculpture, and photography, the exhibi­tion explores themes of the body and the human, and our ways of relating to our environments. Through their distinct practices, the artists question with intrigue the ways in which we relate to our own body, within space, in relation to other beings, and the body’s place in a hierar­chical evolutionary structure. The curator is Daría Sól Andrews.

The talk is part of the Culture on Wednesdays event series, which is supported by the Culture and Humanity Committee of Kópavogur. Admission is free.
